Police Report: Officer V. Simpson (vsimpson@cmpd.org)
Please visit the website for the most recent crime alerts, posted under the “Crime Alert” link.

Between October 1 – October 31, there were 71 reported incidents (including those reported at the Family Services Center) in First Ward. The highest reported incident was larceny from auto, second was non-aggravated assault, third was other larcenies. There were five reports of vandalism, four hit and runs. Two armed robberies and one attempted armed robbery. There was one shooting at First Ward Place apartments on 10.29.

Officer Simpson asked residents to consider reactivating a Neighborhood Watch program. Please let Bob Szymkiewicz know if you are interested in serving.

Guest Speaker: David Furman, Boulevard Central
David Furman from Boulevard Central spoke about the company’s residential development in First Ward. Retail/commercial tenants are still being recruited in the Courtside and M Street developments. Courtside will be completed by the end of the year. The traffic lights at 6th/Davidson/Caldwell will be replaced. The Quarterside and Ledge residential projects are currently in development at the lot between 6th, McDowell, Myers and 7th Streets.  All buildings will be four stories tall.

David also introduced his new project at Caldwell and Trade next to the Arena. The project has not yet been introduced to the public.

Center City Partners Neighborhood Liaison Report: Darlene Heater
Darlene shared information about the redevelopment plans for the old First Ward Elementary. CMS currently has plans for the space that include recreational areas for children, but currently needs the space at the school for overflow. They plan to move forward on the park within 3-5 years after First Ward Elementary has been redistricted.

General Discussion
Deborah encouraged the residents to wrap their trees against cankerworms. Willow oak, pin oak and elm are especially vulnerable. There is not currently a program organized for the neighborhood but supplies are available at local hardware stores. More information will be placed on the First Ward website. The Dilworth Neighborhood website www.idilworth.org has information on how to properly wrap trees.

Councilmember Pat Mumford will be the guest speaker at the December meeting.
ParkIt will be here in January to reissue parking permits.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:09p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Emily Westbrook, 11.07.06
